Our Impact

Bradford Active Dance – Community Impact

Bradford Active Dance (B.A.D.) is helping children across Bradford become more confident, active and connected through inclusive, community-led dance.

An independent evaluation of the 2025 programme highlights the powerful impact B.A.D. has had on young participants and their families.

Key Impact Highlights

  • Confidence and personal growth
Children reported feeling less shy, more confident and proud of their achievements. Many performed publicly for the first time and felt empowered to express themselves.
  • Improved health and wellbeing
Participants described feeling happier, more energised and calmer through dance. Families also reported improvements in physical activity, mood and emotional wellbeing.
  • Stronger friendships and sense of belonging
Sessions created welcoming spaces where children felt safe, supported and part of a community. Many spoke about making new friends and enjoying dancing together.
  • Resilience and motivation to learn
Children developed perseverance by learning routines, trying new dance styles and building skills week by week.
  • Dance beyond the studio
Participants regularly practised and performed dances at home, sharing what they had learned with family and friends.
  • Inclusive and accessible provision
Parents highlighted B.A.D.’s friendly, diverse and non-competitive environment as a key reason their children thrive, particularly compared to more traditional dance schools.
  • Developing future leaders
The programme has also trained young dance leaders from local communities, creating new pathways into teaching and employment in dance.

Overall Impact

Bradford Active Dance is successfully breaking down barriers to arts participation by providing low-cost, inclusive dance opportunities in communities where access is often limited. The programme is not only helping children stay active but also building confidence, wellbeing and long-term engagement with dance.
